TELL CONGRESS THAT EQUALITY BELONGS IN THE CONSTITUTION

More than 100 years after some women gained the right to vote, people in the US are still not constitutionally guaranteed equality on the basis of sex. The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) will update the US Constitution to protect the equality of rights under the law regardless of sex. The ERA has met all ratification requirements, and now we are urging Congress to act to ensure the ERA is published.

Inequality hurts everyone. Urge Congress to act now to assert that the ERA is part of the Constitution!

Click here to view a recording of a discussion on the League’s role in the ERA. AJ Conroy of the ERA Coalition discusses the ERA history, the League’s role, the implication of passing the ERA, and what PA citizens can do to help.

DID YOU KNOW THAT REGISTERED INDEPENDENTS CAN’T VOTE IN PRIMARIES? LET’S FIX THAT.

Pennsylvania has a chance to give every eligible voter the right to vote in every election. Let’s make 2023 the year Pennsylvania joins 41 other states by repealing closed primaries.

Please call your PA state Senator and ask them to to support a bill to repeal closed primaries or click here to email your Senator.

TAKE ACTION: TELL THE SENATE TO PASS THE DISCLOSE ACT

Voters have a right to know who is making large campaign contributions to influence their votes. Undisclosed political spending has exploded in recent elections, with roughly $1 billion spent since 2010 by dark money groups. This represents massive growth over the last few decades, with many recent federal elections setting records for the most outside political spending.

The funding that candidates and dark money groups raise goes largely to advertising, which is intentionally used to influence voters’ decisions. Although funding is necessary to run for office, dark, undisclosed money opens the door for elected officials to take office without the public knowing which organizations helped them get elected.

The Democracy is Strengthened by Casting Light on Spending in Elections Act or DISCLOSE Act of 2021 (s. 443) requires organizations to disclose political donations over $10,000 during an election cycle. The League supports this legislation because we believe that Americans deserve to know who is trying to influence their vote.

CLICK HERE to contact your senators today and tell them now is the time to root out dark money that has increasing influence on our federal elections.
